17 December 2011: Montreal invaded by a rampaging horde of Santas! Pubs and bars fall one by one to the staggering Red Menace. Nothing stops them, not even vast amounts of alcohol. By dawn, the city is reduced to flaming ruins. All in a night's work for Santa.

Santas at Hurley's

Actually, the turnout on Saturday was disappointing -- a mere ten Santas. We don't expect the 1000+ Santas that turn out for San Francisco Santarchy (the original epicentre of the Santarchy phenomenon, and much else besides), or even the 100+ that turn out for Toronto Santarchy. But it is rather sad when we get half the number of Santas as last year. Montreal really needs to pull up its red Santa Socks.

Notwithstanding, all ten Santas has a very good time. Full photographic evidence is here on my Flickr account. Many thanks to all the Santas who came out!

Sorry you couldn't make it. You'd have enjoyed our rendition of "Walkin' Round in Women's Underwear" (to the tune of "Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland") and "There is No Hell" ("The First Noël") in the middle of a Metro car on the way to Foufs.

Next time I hope to hold the event earlier in December. This close to Xmess, Santa's obviously got too much to do.

I see Zentai Claus came out to party.

I don't think I have the stamina for SF Santa (to say nothing of the insurance - two of my erstwhile DMV teammates departed via ambulance, in C-spine, after getting knocked to the ground...), but one of these years I want to do South Bay Santarchy.

"Zentai Claus" -- bwahaha!

Sorry to hear about your DMV teammates; that's no way to treat Santa!

one of these years I want to do South Bay Santarchy.

You should -- and you will.

Tell that to the Santa who threw a punch at Muppet. (Yeti posted this oddly-adorable picture of the two of them to her Facebook, holding hands across the back of the ambulance....)

You should -- and you will.

Indeed...once my mobility has improved again. (One of the many things on my list of Why I Have The Assessment on Thursday.)

The whole Santarchy thing is passe for Dan and I. We actually met at Santacon in Winnipeg in 2004 (he was an elf, I was pass-out-sent-home-@-8pm Santa). Honestly, it's because year after year, it's the same thing over and over: A bar hop in Santa outfits singing naughty carols... hardly "anarchy" at all.

Back in Winnipeg, my friend who organized the event, had allllll kinds of crazy surprises lined-up. We crashed parties, piled into tiny restaurants, hopped on buses (rented for the event, $5 bucks a head) and went out to the bars/strip clubs in the burbs where a pile of drunk Santa fucking BLEW THEIR MINDS. One time, we even ended-up on the ice at a Mantioba Moose game during a commercial break. This type of event takes fore-thought and organization, as well as skills in event-promotion. The exciting part is bringing that chaos to places where it's unexpected.

Santa bar-hops are now par for the course. Let's go to a pub, followed-up by another pub... and then maybe we'll go to a pub. Then, if we're lucky, the few people that are still part of the crew, who haven't gotten bored of pubs, will find somewhere to go dancing... It's just not that exciting anymore.

I agree completely. This Santa doesn't even drink. Santarchy should always include things that don't involve booze: invading public art installations, shopping malls, Christmas villages, singing weird carols on the courthouse lawn, etc.
